How it works
Official data in, credit on every card, no guesswork in between.
1 · Official feeds only
Warnings, watches and advisories come from the national weather services that issue them. Reports come from the Storm Prediction Center. Maps come from NOAA's own products. Live now: United States. In testing: Canada, Europe.
2 · A small proxy in front
A small edge proxy fetches each feed on a fixed schedule, caches it, and hands it to the page. That keeps the sources from being hit by every visitor and lets the page keep working through a short outage. If the proxy is down, pages fall back to the source directly wherever the source allows it.
3 · Reprinted, never reworded
PerilRadar is not a warning service. It reprints official warnings with credit and never issues its own. Warnings keep their original words, issue time and a link to the full text.
4 · FACT and MODEL
FACT marks official data with its source. MODEL marks anything PerilRadar calculates, such as a reading compared with its 30-year normal. Radar-estimated hail is official NOAA data and is marked FACT with the note radar-estimated.
5 · Quiet days and dead feeds
No warnings is a healthy state and shows as a calm card. A feed that stops answering shows a dashed offline card. Nothing is ever faked to look live.
6 · Regions switch on when they pass testing
Each region's feeds are tested for format, freshness and terms before the region goes live. Until then the region shows a single card saying it is in testing.
7 · Built light
No video, no tracking pixels on first load, one self-hosted font, and live images only below the fold. The globe loads only when you ask for it.
